When it comes to fairytale like places this forest really stands out from all the other ones located in Belgium. But if you want to experience it’s magic for yourself you really have to plan your visit since the bluebells are only in bloom for a couple of weeks. Usually they start to pop up their heads a little after half of april. But if you want to make sure you can always check the website of Hallerbos itself which includes all detailed information you need.
When to visit?
From the 12th of april until 25th of april. After this period it’s harder for the sunlight to reach the flower buds which makes them loose their purple glory and radiance. Before and after the forest will still be fantastic to visit but it won’t hold that special fairytale vibe.
I do advise you to go as early as possible in the morning since these bluebells are only here for a couple of weeks and literally thousands of people pay a visit to them during this short period of time. I was there at 7am and there were already a lot of other photographers there!
How to get there?
There are several parking spots located all around the forest but the closest one is parking number 11. If these are already full you can always park down in the center of Halle and take one of the many shuttlebusses. They have 3 different pick up locations and start from 9am until 8pm.
By public transport
There are several busses going from Halle station straight to the entrance of the bluebell forest. On weekdays bus number 114 will do the trick and on the weekends bus number 156 or 155 will get you there.
The most important thing to keep in mind when you’re visiting is to not dwell of the foreseen pathways. There is plenty of room between the several bushes but do make sure you don’t step on any of them! It’s better to use photoshop in this case (or Lightroom like I did) instead of destroying this beautiful scenery. Cause once you step on one of these bluebells they will never grow back.
