Including some insider tips on how to get there, when to go and what to wear to get that perfect shot!
1. City Palace
How to get there – The City Palace is located in the middle of the Pink City of Jaipur so the best way to reach it is by going by Tuk Tuk. If you wish to see all of the best spots you have to buy the combined ticket that allows you entrance to the museum as well as the private chambers.
When to go – This is a very touristic place so make sure to arrive at 9.30 am as soon as it opens.
What to wear: I would opt for a white/neutral dress since the entire place is very colourful.

3. Amer Fort
How to get there – Tuk Tuk + walk up is on foot
When to go – The fort opens at 8am so make sure you are there by then! It’s located in Amer, a town a little outside of Jaipur and it can take up to 30 minutes to get there depending on traffic so make sure you take this into calculation
What to wear – Go for a colourful one coloured dress here to make sure you stand out

4. Nahargarh Fort, Jaipur
How to get there – It’s a pretty far drive since it’s way further than Amer Fort from Jaipur. We took a Tuk Tuk but I would advise you to go with a car with driver (don’t go driving yourself here :p) because of all the winding roads.
When to go – Make sure you arrive one hour before sunset. This spot is located at the sunset point and taken from the terrace of the cafe that is there. Be prepared for a lot of people staring at you if you would climb up the wall cause apparently not many people are that crazy.
What to wear – Go for a soft white dress here, it will reflect beautiful against the sunset colours and will be in sheer contrast with the pink city of Jaipur below.

5. The Blue City, Jodhpur
How to get there – The only way to get to the blue city is by Tuk Tuk or on foot
When to go – The city can get really hectic and crowded once the clock hit’s 10 am so try to go before that! But I would definitely also advise you to go for a Tuk Tuk ride in the middle of the day. Nowhere on this trip can you immerse more in the Indian traffic and culture than in Jodhpur! It’s completely crazy and at some times you might want to close your eyes but it’s an experience you’ll never forget!
What to wear – I opted for a local dress here that I bought in Jaipur to compliment my surroundings.

6. Panna Meena ka Kun
How to get there – The stepwell is located 10 minutes driving from Amer Fort so best to go by Tuk Tuk. Even early in the morning there will be a guard present who will let you take photos for 100 Indian Rupies. You get 10 minutes per person but when other tourists arrive you can’t walk down the stairs.
When to go – Early morning is best otherwise the sun will be too harsh here to take any nice photos.
What to wear – A colourful dress that you can drape a little and adds some movement to the photo.

7. Pushkar Lake, Pushkar
How to get there – Pushkar is a very small town. Our hotel was a little outside of the city (Moti Mahal) and it only took us 10 minutes to walk towards the lake. Notice that as soon as you get near to the lake you have to take of your shoes because Pushkar is a holy city! If you don’t be prepared for people to get upset about it cause in the beginning we didn’t realise this and some men actually started shouting at us. Also, make sure you don’t take photos where people are bathing cause this is also prohibited.
When to go – The lake is at it’s most beautiful during sunset
What to wear – Wear a dress that covers your knees (holy city!)

Where to stay in Pushkar
- Jagat Palace – From here you get amazing views of the biggest sand dune of Thar Desert and the magnificent Snake Mountain.
- Hotel Rang Mahal – Includes spacious rooms and an outdoor swimming pool
8. Thar Desert, Jaisalmer
How to get there – You’ll most definitely need transportation by car. Another option which you can choose is to join in on a camel safari. Unfortunately when we were visiting it was really off season so all of the luxury camps were closed. But if you can I can really recommend The Serai.
When to go – Right before sunset is the most magical time
What to wear – Going barefoot is the way to go here cause I tell you it’s a lot harder than it looks to run around in sand dunes :p

9. Gadsisar Sagar Lake, Jaisalmer
How to get there – It’s a short walking distance from the fort
When to go – We went during sunrise and the light was absolutely magical
What to wear – If you go during sunrise I would opt for a sheer fabric so you can make even more magic happen with the light!

10. Jaisalmer Fort
How to get there – The entrance of the fort is easily reached by Tuk Tuk. It’s one of the last living forts in the world where about 1/4 of the old population still lives.

What to wear – A flowy dress + sandals you don’t need sneakers to climb this fort 😉

11. Chittorgarh Fort, Chittor
How to get there – By car, it is located in between Pushkar and Udaipur.
When to go – Try to go before noon to beat the heat and the crowds
What to wear – Wear something long and loose. The fort is located on top of a hill so during the day it can get extremely hot.

12. Hanuman Ji Temple “Monkey Temple”, Jaipur
How to get there – The best option here is to take a car with a driver for this one. Make sure to ask your driver to drop you off at the entrance. We didn’t know this from before and he dropped us of at the foot of a giant hill which we then had to climb up and down two times to get there and back. I can tell you that’s not ideal when it’s 40 degrees Celcius :p
When to go – Try to go before 10 am to avoid harsh shadows in your photos. Do not visit this place after sunset cause in dry season tigers descent from the hill to come drink here.
What to wear – Opt here for something that covers your shoulders in case a monkey jumps on them cause they are all around and love to jump from above into this pool.

13. Cafe Palladio, Jaipur
How to get there – You can easily get here by Tuk Tuk.
When to go – It’s the perfect place to enjoy an elaborate lunch (the food is absolutely delicious) and escape the heat. The staff is super friendly and they even moved our food outside to take a photo and then moved it back inside cause of course it was way too hot to eat out.
What to wear – Try to avoid harsh colours here since the interior is in pastel colours.
Don’t confuse it with Bar Palladio which you should avoid at all costs! The interior is beautiful but the staff is rude and very dismissive. It’s only open from 6pm and we went there for dinner and drinks. We had already told this to the staff and when we wanted to take a photo with my camera they told us that you have to pay to take photos inside… I get that they don’t want people coming in there just to take photos all the time but to charge paying customers?????

14. Taj Mahal, Agra
How to get there – The drop off point is quite far so make sure to wear comfortable shoes
When to go – It opens every day at 6am except for Friday when it’s only open for prayer.
What to wear – I chose for a typical dress by a local designer, a saree is also a beautiful option!

18. Rangji Temple, Pushkar
How to get there – This one is located about 300 meters from Pushkar Lake. The entrance is free and you can leave your shoes in the hallway. This temple is beautiful and not crowded at all so I felt very safe leaving my shoes there unattended. There is a donation box which you can use freely and since we were taking photos we put in some money
When to go – The temple is open from 6am until 7pm. We were there around 5pm and had the most beautiful light with the sun setting right behind the temple!
What to wear – You’re still in the holy city! Indians are actually way more offended by a piece of leg showing than when you would were a deep V-neck for instance. That’s why for the second day I chose to wear a longer dress. I didn’t get any remarks on the dress I was wearing since it basically covers everything besides the lower part of my legs :p

19. Jain Temples, Jaisalmer
How to get there – They are located within the fort
When to go – They are open every day from 7 am until 1 pm. The charge for entering is around 200 rupies plus an additional fee to take your camera inside as a tourist. Please remember to remove your shoes before entering.
What to wear – Make sure to be dressed decent when you’re visiting temples: preferably a long dress and covered shoulders.

20. Hawa Mahal, Jaipur
How to get there – It’s located in the middle of the pink city so a Tuk Tuk is your best option. Right in front of the building there is a very busy street so your best option is to go up to one of the cafés across the street. We chose Wind View café since it has the highest terrace.
When to go – Make sure you are here before noon otherwise the sun’s reflection will probably ruin every photo.
What to wear – White or light pastel colours

Very nice pictures but I can’t help noticing that you should definitely cover up more while in India. No knees and preferably no shoulders should be uncovered. I think this is important because as a female solo traveller in India I have noticed that these details showing respect for their customs is very important.
