RITZ CARLTON ABAMA – Tenerife
Staying at the Ritz Carlton Abama is what made our trip absolutely unforgettable. It’s only a short drive away from most hiking trails and you won’t have to deal with the daily traffic jams in the south of Tenerife.
We stayed at their Villa Club Deluxe which comes with a semi private heated pool, exclusive access to El Mirador for breakfast and includes complimentary drinks and snacks by the pool.

Paradisus by Meliá – Gran Canaria
My main draw to Paradisus by Meliá was its design and their luxury all inclusive service. Our baby stayed for free and we got a beautiful cot set up for him in our room.
There are several restaurants in the hotel but one of the biggest benefits for me was their lavish buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You never know how dinner will go with a baby and with a buffet you have a less strict schedule and can take care of your little one if he needs you.
They had plenty of high chairs for kids and also a kids pool where he could test the water without being too cold in the big swimming pool.
LANZAROTE
Alava Suites
I opted for their deluxe appartement which also came with a private terrace. Breakfast is included and was different and delicious every single morning. For our dinner we had our own kitchen to cook something simple.
The property also comes with a fitness and a shared swimming pool.
All in all the perfect oasis from where to explore the island of Lanzarote!
THE BEST TIME TO VISIT THE CANARY ISLANDS
The Canary Islands are fortunate to boast a climate that makes them a fantastic year-round destination.
However, if you’re looking for the ideal time to visit, it largely depends on your preferences.
For those seeking warm, beach-perfect weather without the peak season crowds, late spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to November) are excellent choices. During these months, the temperatures are comfortably warm, the sea is pleasant for swimming, and the islands aren’t as crowded as in the peak summer months.
If you’re a fan of vibrant festivities, consider visiting during the famous Carnival season, usually in February or March, when the streets come alive with colorful parades and lively music, particularly in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Summer (July and August) is peak tourist season, offering the hottest weather, ideal for sunbathing and water sports, though it’s also the busiest and most expensive time.
On the other hand, winter (December to February) is mild compared to much of Europe, making it a great escape from colder climates, though it can be a bit cooler and wetter, especially in the northern parts of the islands.
In summary, whether you’re after a sunny beach holiday, outdoor adventures, or cultural experiences, the Canary Islands are a great choice any time of the year.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN VISITING THE CANARY ISLANDS
Language – Spanish is the main language spoken here, so a few basic Spanish phrases can go a long way. However, in tourist areas, you’ll find that many locals speak English and sometimes German, making communication relatively easy.
Currency – The local currency is the Euro, as the islands are part of Spain.
Credit Cards & ATM’s – You’ll find ATMs readily available in most towns and tourist areas, and they are generally reliable. Credit cards are widely accepted, especially in hotels, restaurants, and larger shops, but it’s always good to have some cash on hand, particularly in smaller establishments or remote areas.
Safety – When it comes to safety, the Canary Islands are considered quite safe for tourists. The usual precautions should be taken, like watching your belongings and being aware of your surroundings, but violent crime is relatively rare. It’s also wise to respect local laws and customs and to stay informed about any travel advisories.
TIPS FOR YOUR FIRST VISIT TO THE CANARY ISLANDS
Island hopping – Each island has its own unique vibe and attractions, so try to visit more than one if you can.
