1. Shwedagon Pagoda
How to get there – The easiest way to get there is by taxi (price was 3000 MMK). You will be dropped off at the entrance gate for foreign visitors where you will have to take off your shoes and pay the entrance fee of 10.000 MMK.

When to go – This place is always busy but I recommend to go before sunrise when it’s mostly still locals that come here to pray and pay their respects.
What to wear – Your shoulders, chest and knees have to be covered. Shoes are not allowed inside.

The Most Instagrammable places in Bagan
As of 2017 foreign tourists have to pay a tax of 25 000 MMK upon arrival.
1. Soo Lay Gon Group
How to get there – This group of pagoda’s and stupa’s is located next to the Golf Court and is easy accessible by e-bike.

When to go – Be there 30 minutes before sunrise to “claim” your spot. I was there twice and after a while around 20 other people showed up.


2. Shwe Nan Yin Taw Monastic Complex
How to get there – This complex is a little off the main road and easy to access by e-bike.

When to go – Perfect location to go after sunrise to get some incredible light!
3. The one where the stairs are still open
How to get there – the small roads can be tricky by e-bike because of drfiting in the sand but if you’re careful it should be no problem

When to go – It’s a good spot for either sunrise or sunset
4. Floral temple
How to get there – it’s pretty close to the previous temple and worth the visit because of all the pretty trees that are in bloom right in front of it!

When to go – It’s a nice temple to visit during the day

5. Field with clusters of pagoda’s and stupa’s
How to get there – It’s not far from the main road but the sand can be pretty thick so be careful when you drive here with your e-bike.

6. Aureum Palace
How to get there – You can simply drive there with your e-bike

When to go – Perfect place for sunset
I don’t recommend this place for actually staying there. They support animal cruelty by offering elephant rides.

7. Winido Temple

When to go – This is a good temple to visit during the day

The Most Instagrammable places in Mandalay, Myanmar.
1. Kuthodaw Pagoda
How to get there – I stayed at the Aurora Hotel, which I highly recommend! From here it’s a short drive by taxi to the Kuthodaw Pagoda and it will cost you 3500MMK.

When to go – Go in the early morning to avoid the crowds. I arrived around 11am, which is pretty late but even then I was still able to get all of my photos.

2. Mya Thein Than Pagoda
How to get there – It’s about 90 minutes driving from Mandalay so the best way to do it is to hire a driver for a day. I went with the hotel’s selection and visited Mya Thein Than Pagoda, Min Kun, Saigan Hill and U Bein bridge in one day (45 000MMK).

When to go – I left Mandalay at 8am to get here at 9.30am, the site opens at 9am. Entrance fee: 5000MMK (this also includes the Min Kun pagoda).
3. Min Kun Pagoda
How to get there – It’s only a short walking distance from the previous pagoda

When to go – We were there in the middle of the day and it wasn’t too crowded.

4. U Min Thonze Temple, Sagaing
How to get there – Stick with your driver for the day and after climbing up to the temple enjoy a fresh coconut to relax from the heat

When to go – This places must be amazing for sunrise or sunset, unfortunately that didn’t fit into the itinerary.
