The Best Places in Belgium for Fall Photography
Autumn really is my favourite season and while it may mean the end of Summer it also means that nature will become incredibly beautiful!
The trees start to change colour: from yellow, to orange all the way to bright red. And after a while those leaves fall to the ground creating a beautiful carpet.
When is the best time to photograph Fall foliage in Belgium?
The first colour changes start creeping in at the start of October and around the 3rd week of October the fall foliage will be at its peak.
After that it really depends on which area your visiting cause some trees have lost their leaves already but in other places they hold until mid November.

What are the best places in Belgium to take beautiful Autumn photos
Rocher du Hat
Let’s start with one of my favourite places for Fall photography in Belgium!
The Rocher du Hat is one of the most impressive viewpoints over the Semois! The look out point is not secured so please, be very careful when visiting. Last time I was there it was super windy and also a little slippery because of the rain.
The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking with the Semois curling in between the hardwood trees that all change colour during this season!
If you know where to park your car then the hike to this viewpoint is suuuuper easy! If not you might end up in front of the Semois halfway through your hike with no way to go over. And I do not recommend swimming :p.
Park your car close to Kayak-Chiny and from there it’s only 15 minutes walking!
Furfooz
The nature reserve Furfooz is located in the Lesse valley and only 15 minutes driving from the beautiful city Dinant.
Go on a beautiful 4km hike through the forest, along the limestone cliffs and explore the many caves that you can find in this nature reserve. It’s a family friendly stroll and your kids will be amazed by all of the amazing rock formations!
Entrance to the park is €5 and at the moment you can only enter if you’ve bought your tickets online.
Furfooz is located really close to both Chateau Walzin and Chateau de Vêves so make sure to go visit them as well!
Wissekerke Castle
You can find the Wissekerke Castle in Bazel in the province East Flanders. The current castle was built in the 15th century and has one of the oldest iron suspension bridges in Europe.
Wissekerke Castle is surrounded by a lake and a beautiful park, especially across the bridge you’ll find some beautiful orange coloured trees!
The park itself is free to enter and open 24/7.
Le Tombeau du Géant
Le Tombeau du Géant, also known as the Giant’s grave, is one of the most important and impressive viewpoints in Belgium. It is hidden deep in Wallonia and the only way to get here is by car. It got its name because one of the bends in the Semois at this point seems to enclose a coffin of gigantic proportions.
This viewpoint near Botassart is super easy to reach by car. There is a big and free parking space available, which is only 2 minutes walking from the viewpoint!

Borrekens Castle
The Borrekens Castle is also known as the castle of Vorselaar and has to be one of the most picturesque castles in the province of Antwerp in Belgium!
The castle is located in a beautiful park which is free to enter at any time. The castle itself is privately owned and can only be admired from across the moat. The best place to admire the castle is when you walk around towards the back of it and here you’ll find a beautiful opening in the hedges.
Walzin Castle
The Walzin Castle has to be my favourite castle in Belgium. It is located near Dinant and overlooks the Lesse. Construction of the castle began in the 13th Century and it was completely rebuilt after the French army burned it down in 1554.
The castle itself is private domain and it’s not possible to visit it.
Frijthout
This small but beautiful park is located in the small town of Hove, only 20 minutes driving from Antwerp.
It’s vegetation is constantly changing and in the early morning you can see fog rising up from the ground.
It’s one of my favourite places to go and be in nature.
De Schorre
De Schorre is one of the most popular and known recreational domains in Belgium. You might know it as the holy grounds of Tomorrowland.
But this year something magical happened! You can now go searching for 7 hidden trolls in the forest.
It’s the perfect place to visit on an early Autumn morning and take some photos! It’s one of my favourite places for beautiful and fun Fall photography in Belgium.

Castle Marnix de Sainte Aldegonde
I guess this castle will always be one of my favourites due to its grandeur.
It’s currently not open for visitors due to COVID-19 but you can admire it from across the lake!

Nismes
Nismes is a quaint little town in the South of Belgium in the province of Namur and the start of several beautiful hikes! The most famous attraction here is the Fondry des Chiens, a ravine of 100 meters long and 20 meters deep and unique in its kind in Belgium.
If you don’t have a lot of time you can simply drive up to this small canyon but otherwise I highly recommend you to do one of the many hikes which include a visit to the Fondry des Chiens.
