Capo Rosso Hiking Trail – A step by step guide
I started hiking very early in the morning, about an hour before sunrise. I really wanted to avoid the hottest part of the day and there’s nothing I love more than hiking in the fresh morning air.
This also meant that I was alone on the trail for 90% of the time.
The trail begins at the height of 319m above sea level and slowly descends to 64m. This part is easy and well marked and after about 3km you reach the cliffs.

Make sure to take a few stops along the way to admire the views on your left and right! The Capo Rosso trail is one of the most scenic hikes in entire Corsica. At one point the trail splits into two sections, one isn’t more difficult than the other. The longer trail just takes you alongside the cliffs and offers some different viewpoints!

Now comes the hardest part because what comes down must go back up! Once you reach the rock, all that’s left to do is start climbing. But the Turghiu tower stands at 331 meter above sea level so there’s a lot of elevation gain in a short amount of distance.

Once on the rock itself the path wasn’t always clear to follow. I just figured I had to keep going up and after a couple extra minutes of sweating I reached the top of Capo Rosso!
And let me tell you, the views were absolutely insane!
💡 TIP – Make sure to also take a peek inside the Genoese tower! The solitary Tour was built in 1608 as one of the numerous defense towers elevated by the Republic of Genoa to surveil and protect the island against pirate attacks. The views from the platform on top of the tower present an unforgettable 360-degree panorama.

Now all that’s left to do is hike back to the car. The climb up is a lot less steep but takes a bit longer than expected. Especially since the sun is now shining bright and there’s absolutely no shade anywhere on the trail.
💡 TIP – Make sure to bring enough water with you cause there isn’t a place to refill your water bottle. There also aren’t any facilities at the start of the hiking trail.

When can you hike the Capo Rosso Trail
The Capo Rosso Trail in Corsica is beautiful to visit any time of year, as the trail is open year-round.
However, the best time for hiking would typically be in the spring or fall when the weather is milder, and the landscape is either blooming with spring flowers or showcasing the rich colors of autumn.
During the summer months, the trail can be very hot and exposed, so if hiking in summer, it’s advisable to start early in the morning to avoid the midday heat. Always check local weather conditions before setting out, as weather can impact trail accessibility and safety.
