If you want to make your visit to Oman a little more adventurous and you love being outdoors then a visit to Jebel Shams simply has to be on your itinerary! The Balcony Walk in Jebel Shams takes you along the edge of the deepest canyon in entire Oman.
The best place to stay when completing the Balcony Walk in Jebel Shams is definitely SAMA Al Khutaim-Heritage Home. This small homestay is located right at the start of the hiking trail so perfect if you want to start hiking at either sunrise or sunset.
Most other hotels are a bit further away and require a 20 minute drive to reach the start of the Balcony Walk.
Breakfast and dinner are included in the price and dinner was absolutely delicious and consisted of a plethora of freshly cooked Indian dishes. The rooms are spacious and clean but don’t expect any grand luxury here.

5. Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort
On the edge of a canyon with soul-stirring views of the rugged Hajar Mountains, the hotel has sleek rooms with balconies and villas with private pools. It offers a plethora of activities, from hiking and abseiling to cooking and photography, and a truly sensational spa.

6. Antique Inn
Antique Inn is a heritage property that has been sympathetically restored to gives guests a true taste of staying in an Omani home hundreds of years ago. You’ll really feel like you’ve gone back in time as you duck your head to go through the low doorways and negotiate the narrow stairways.
Make sure that when you place your booking that you take one of the rooms that has their own private bathroom. Otherwise you’ll have to share one with other guests. If that’s your cup of tea and you don’t mind doing so then be my guest but that’s not for me anymore. They also have very nice rooms that come with their own private bathroom.
There’s also a pool on the property which is perfect to cool down after a day of exploring Nizwa and the neighboring forts and castles. Make sure to watch the sunset from their rooftop terrace.
Another big plus? Antique Inn is only 3 minutes walking from Nizwa Fort and Nizwa Souq.

7. Nizwa Heritage Inn
Nizwa Heritage Inn is located in the heart of Nizwa in a fully restored Omani mud house.
The houses age go back to hundreds of years., and the suburb where they are located at is aged for more than 1000. NHI consists of 5 old houses with 30 various bedrooms that can accommodate at least 63 persons.

8. Desert Nights Resort
If you prefer a desert camp with some luxury then Desert Nights Resort will be the best option for you. Their luxury tents are completely closed off from the sand and also include airconditioning, a private bathroom and an outdoor patio.
They also offer a pick up service from Al Wasil so you don’t have to drive in the desert yourself. Besides that also offer a plethora of activities such as a sunset or sunrise drive up the dunes, camel rides, ATV-rides, dune bashing and a breakfast or dinner on the dunes.
In my personal opinion this is one of the best places to stay in Oman. Both their breakfast, lunch and dinner were excellent and included.
