A couple of weeks ago Fjällräven introduced me to the incredible work of Cristina from Hoops & Expectations. And I can tell you that her creations immediately caught my eye! I have always been a big fan of the Fjällräven Känken back pack, especially to bring with me on a day trip. So when I saw that Cristina created custom embroidered back packs I nearly couldn’t contain my excitement!
And what’s even better, last week I had the pleasure to attend a super cool online event where Cristina explained exactly how to create an embroidered Känken n°2 yourself. Everything we needed was delivered in a beautiful wooden box:
- A stunning Fjällräven Känken n°2 in Grey
- Embroidery thread in different colors
- A large embroidery needle
- Needle threaders
- A scissor
- Two floral patterns

We started by applying the patterns on top of the back pack. These actually work like stickers so they perfectly stay in place during the entire process. After you’ve finished the embroidery you can easily remove this paper by applying warm water on it. It will dissolve completely and reveal your stunning piece of art!

The tutorial itself was super easy to follow and Cristina showed us exactly how to do all of the different stitches! To create the floral decoration we learned a total of 3 stitches:
- A Wagon Wheel Stitch to create the roses
- A Reverse Stitch to create the branches and leaves
- A French Knot Stitch the create the small white flowers
I found the entire embroidery process very relaxing and I actually can’t wait to decorate my light blue Känken as well. Once you know how to do the several stitches it’s also actually a pretty easy DIY project!
I for one can’t wait to bring this back pack with me on all of my upcoming adventures!
