1. How to take photos at teamLab Borderless, Japan
Where and how to get tickets?
- Make sure to plan your visit ahead of time. As soon as you have booked your tickets to Japan and know when you will be in Tokyo book them!
You can order your tickets online here
- Ticket price: 29,5 USD
- As soon as you’ve ordered them you will get a confirmation email. Keep this one safe in your inbox.
- Your ticket is date specific and will become available from midnight the day before
How and when to get there?
- The easiest way to get there is by public transport. In Japan Google Maps is the way to go! You’ll get the exact information that you need right on your smartphone: which subway line to take, which platform it’s gonna leave from and where you need to switch.
Also super handy: it gives you a calculation of your arrival time so make sure to check it the day before cause you have to make sure to arrive at the exhibition at 9am! - Opening hours: 10am-7pm
- Make sure to be at the museum 1 hour before opening time. The line can be incredibly long and they tend to open up sooner as expected.
- Make sure to have breakfast and a toilet break before you get in line because nothing else is open near teamLab Borderless.
What to expect when inside?
- Expect a little bit of mayhem when you enter cause everybody wants to be the first one!
- There are toilets spread out through the different installations.
- Once inside, on your right there are lockers to storage your backpack and coat.
- Next your ticket will be scanned and you’re ready to go and take photos!
Which installation to tackle first at teamLab Borderless?
- I would head straight to the lanterns called “The Forest of Lamps”. It’s the furthest away and if you arrive there as the first one you will have the entire room to yourself for at least 1 minute.
- The lantern room changes colours every 30 seconds and every minute about 20 people can enter the room. This also means that every time you only get 1 minute to get your shots, so come prepared.
- The fun thing is that if you go there first there will never be a long line. You can re-enter the room as many times as you want and get photos with all the different colours lanterns.
- After that I would head towards “Crystal World”, it will probably already be a little busy here but if you wait long enough you will be able to take your photo!

2. How to take photos at ArtScience Museum, Singapore
Where and how to get tickets?
- ArtScience Museum isn’t that overcrowded yet. I arrived at 10am and was still able to get a ticket and enjoy the museum.
If you do want to buy your ticket online you can do so here.
- Ticket price: 14-29 USD depending if you choose to visit 1 exhibition or all of them. The exhibition with the light installations is called “Future World” and changes up from time to time.
How and when to get there?
- ArtScience Museum is located right next to the Gardens by the Bay and from there can be easily reached on foot.
- My advice? Visit Gardens by the Bay early morning and then go to ArtScience Museum at 10am. It’s only 10 minutes walking.
- Opening time: 10am – 5.30pm.
What to expect when inside?
- ArtScience Museum is very popular with schools and a lot of the installations are interactive and super entertaining for kids!
- There are less installations here as in Japan.
Which installation to tackle first?
- You can go back and forward in between installations as much as you want.
- There is no Forest of Lamps here but there is a small Crystal World. It’s located at the end of the exhibition and once you go through and you take the exit you can’t go back in. So make sure to go here first and take your photos before everybody else arrives here. Then walk your way back to the other installations and take your time to enjoy them. It truly is a unique experience!
