With this blog post I want to take away some of the stress that comes with planning a romantic getaway. I can guarantee that your special someone will be over the moon and that you’ll have an amazing time together!
And it doesn’t even have to be Valentine’s Day cause honestly everything is just way more expensive during that time. Belgium is so much more than beer and chocolates and is the perfect setting to make the most amazing memories with the one you love.
Most Romantic Things To Do In Belgium
Go hiking among the most romantic castles in Belgium
Two of the most beautiful castles in Belgium are without a doubt Walzin Castle and Vêves Castle and did you know that there is a beautiful hike where you can see both of these castles? And that’s not even all, you’ll also come across one of the most beautiful places in Wallonia called park Furfooz.
What to expect from the hike from Château Walzin to Château de Vêves
This hike first starts at the foot of the always impressive Château de Walzin. This privately owned castle is nestled upon the limestone cliffs and can’t be visited unfortunately. It is however one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Belgium and why not take a romantic photo here with your significant other?
After that you walk alongside the river Lesse and walk upwards the along side the lime stone cliffs where you’ll pass by the Aiguilles de Chaleux and the small town of Furfooz. If you have some extra time you can also pay a visit to this beautiful park. Just now that at the moment you need to make an online reservation before you can enter.
From here you’ll then walk to the quaint town of Celles where you can admire the impressive and magical Château de Vêves. Let’s be honest, we won’t get closer to Hogwarts than this castle!
Afterwards you simply follow the trail back to Gendron and end up back at the parking lot down at Château de Walzin.
Distance – 15km
Duration – 4,5 hours
Elevation – 248 meters
Level – Moderate
And why not combine this hike with a romantic stay at the Domaine de Ronchinne, the former Château de la Poste.
Spend a weekend in Bruges – The Venice of the North
With its winding canals and cobblestoned streets, Bruges is one of the most romantic cities in Belgium. It’s one of those cities where you actually want to get lost cause no matter where you end up chances are very high you’ll be in a beautiful spot!
The most romantic thing you can do is go on a boat ride on the canals. The boats run on a daily basis from 10am until 6pm and last around 30 minutes. It might be a little touristy, okay no very touristy. But I once did once of these boat rides in Ghent and it was a lot of fun cause you learn a lot of unusual facts about the city.
If both you and your partner are a fan of beer you have to make a stop at the Beerwall. In the Summer time you can even sit down on their terrace which overlooks the romantic Rozenhoedkaai.
If you prefer chocolate then you have to stop by The Old Chocolate House, a charming shop & cafe offering homemade hot chocolate, truffles, gingerbread, cookies, tea & coffee.
One of the most romantic places in Bruges is the Minnewater park where you have to pay a visit to the Lover’s Bridge.
And what’s more romantic than staying in a castle? You can choose to stay at the Hotel Dukes’ Palace, which is in the heart of Bruges or Hotel Lodewijk Van Male, which is only 7km away from Bruges.
Spend the night at one of the many castle hotels in Belgium
Did you know that there are over 3000 castles in Belgium and that you can visit nearly 400 of them? And not just that! Our little country is also home to a couple of stunning castle hotels!
Imagine waking up in a real life fairytale! I don’t think it gets any more romantic than that. Some of these castle hotels hold on to their authentic flair while others are more modernised and also invested in a Spa facility.
I actually wrote an entire blog post about the most romantic castle hotels in Belgium where I list my personal favourites. And for your convenience I also included the top things to do in the area!
Go on a romantic hike in the snow
Let’s be fair, we’ve all seen the news these last weeks about hordes of people going to the High Fens on the weekend to enjoy the snow. There’s nothing wrong with that besides the fact that we’re still in the middle of a pandemic and that people were trespassing private property of farmers to go sledding.
But what if I told you there are a lot more places where you can enjoy the snow and where you can go for a romantic hike between the snow covered trees without bumping into hundreds of people.
When planning your trip there are two places that you absolutely want to avoid on the weekends: the Botrange and the Baraque de Michel. If you’re able to go during the week and avoid the busy weekends these places are a true gem when there’s snow.
If both you and your significant other only have time for a trip during the weekend then I suggest these spots:
- Libramont – A beautiful Winter Wonderland close to Rochefort. Maybe try to convince your man to go here by telling him that it’s close to the Abbey of Rochefort. At least, that’s my trick :p.
- Coo – Admire the beautiful landscapes and the highest natural waterfall in Belgium
- Stoumont – Located close to Spa so why not combine your snow hike with a wellness weekend.
- Longfaye – Explore the area around Malmedy and visit the Bayehon waterfall.

Enjoy a picknick on the most romantic locations in Belgium
With restaurants still closed we are forced to either cook for ourselves or try one of the many take out menus. Almost every restaurant offers them now and while it’s a nice change of pace it’s not very romantic…
So what if I told you you could organise a super deluxe and unique pick nick? And that you could enjoy it at some of the most beautiful places in Belgium? Enter PicknickPoint, a Belgian company that organises delicious picknicks on unique locations!
They even offer options now which are completely winter proof! It’s all very simple: choose a location, select which type of picknick you want, put in your order and your picknick will be delivered at the choosen time and place!

Fire up the romance in a secluded cabin in the woods
Slow down and get back to nature at one of the beautiful Nutchel Cabins!
Nutchel is a forest camp in the Ardennes in Belgium where you can completely unwind and escape all of the stress from your daily life! Where you can rediscover the pleasure of simple things, create light with oil lamps and candles and warm yourself near a wooden stove.
Enjoy the warmth of your cabin on a cold Winters day or go out and explore the many hiking trails surrounding the forest. Did you know the Müllerthal trail is only a short drive away? And wouldn’t it be just perfect to soak in your private hot tub after one of those hikes?
Breakfast baskets can be served in your cabin per request and there’s even the possibility to fire up a bbq in the evening!
Spend a romantic weekend in Durbuy
Durbuy might be the smallest city in the world but that doesn’t mean you can’t plan a weekend filled with fun activities! It also doesn’t hurt that Durbuy looks like it stepped right out of a fairytale storybook. With its cobblestoned streets, winding alleys and nestled in a beautiful valley.
And who said adventure can’t be romantic? Get yourself an Adventure Pass and Fly Pass and enjoy all of the activities at Adventure Valley for an entire day!
If you’re looking for a more relaxed atmosphere you can for a walk in the beautiful Topiary park or pay a visit to Radhadesh. At this renovated 11th-century castle you’ll have the opportunity to practice yoga or learn the art of Indian cooking!

Spend the night in the first brewery hotel in Belgium
Welcome to hotel “Het Anker“, the first brewery hotel in Belgium! Het Anker is a family brewery in Mechelen that’s been in business for 5 generations! Located at the Great Beguinage to make for the perfect setting to explore Mechelen city as well!
If you’re boyfriend is a beer lover (and aren’t they pretty much all?), this would make for a fabulous surprise! Waking up with a view over the authentic brewery and a nightstand made out of a beer crate? He’ll probably think he ended up in heaven!
For the moment their main restaurant is closed but they do provide breakfast for all of their hotel guests and a visit to the brewery is still possible if you make a reservation!

I hope this list will give you and your significant other some inspiration for the upcoming weekends and show you romance doesn’t have to be flowers and chocolates or expensive jewellery! A fun activity together is often the best way to go!
