First things first, you need to plan out which flowers you would like to see in bloom. Starting end of march the first flowers will go in bloom namely the narcissus. All of the fields will turn to yellow and a hint of orange can already be seen. After the narcissus the hyacints will start to blossom and show different shades of pink, purple and even white.
It isn’t until half of april that the first tulips will start to show their colours. So if you are solely interested in seeing tulips, half of april might be a little too early in the season and I would advise you to wait until the end of april since at the very beginning of the season there’s also is a big floral parade that can cause a lot of disturbance regarding traffic.
All of the bulb fields can be found around the same area. We actually didn’t really plan it and just drove to the first village that was pointed out on google called Noordwijkerhout. We got out of the car and asked a local where to find the prettiest flower fields and it turns out there is one main road that will guide you through all of them. You start here and follow the N208 all the way up to Lisse and Hillegom.
Did you know Belgium is also the perfect country to visit during spring? There are a ton of beautiful places to visit and the world famous Hallerbos is also in bloom!

In Lisse you have 2 options: Keukenhof or exploring on your own. Keukenhof is known worldwide for it’s enormous amount of flowers an every year half a million people from all over the world come and visit these gardens. While we were driving by we saw around 150 busses and an average of let’s say 500 cars parked outside, so we decided to go with option number 2! This is also the cheapest option since a single ticket for Keukenhof is 18 Euros.
Between Lisse and Hillegom you will find most of the fields and if you drive/walk around a little you will find that a lot of them are easy accessible. Others are more protected which in my honest opinion I think is a good idea. Even that I was running between the flowers I always made sure to be extra careful to not cause any damage. But of course there are a lot of other people that just don’t give a damn and even take their dogs with them to play around in these fields…
